Dalton, GA – The Georgia Department of Education has named The Dalton Academy and Dalton High School as 2025 Advanced Placement (AP) Honor Schools, recognizing their commitment to academic excellence and college readiness. The announcement, made by State School Superintendent Richard Woods, highlights 301 AP Honor Schools from 104 school districts across the state.

Dalton High School earned distinctions as both an AP STEM School and an AP Access and Support School, while The Dalton Academy was recognized as an AP Challenge School. These honors reflect the schools' dedication to providing rigorous, high-quality educational opportunities for all students.

β€œGeorgia's 2025 AP Honor Schools exemplify our commitment to providing students with rigorous, high-quality educational opportunities that prepare them for success beyond high school,” Superintendent Woods said. β€œI commend these schools for their dedication to academic excellence and equipping students with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in college, careers, and life.”

The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) began recognizing AP Honor Schools in 2008. Schools earn recognition in one or more of eight categories based on student participation and performance in Advanced Placement courses and exams.

Dalton High School was recognized in the following categories:

  • AP Access and Support School: Schools where at least 30% of AP exams were taken by students who identified as African American and/or Hispanic (with a minimum of 16 students), and 30% of all AP exams earned scores of 3 or higher. At least 25 exams must have been administered.

  • AP STEM School: Schools that administered at least five AP exams in each of four separate AP STEM courses (math, science, and computer science), with a minimum of 25 total exams administered.

The Dalton Academy earned distinction as an AP Challenge School, a designation for schools with enrollments of 900 or fewer students that administered AP exams in English, math, science, and social studies, with a minimum of 25 total exams administered.

AP courses, administered by the College Board, provide high school students with the opportunity to engage in college-level coursework. Students who earn scores of 3, 4, or 5 on an AP exam may qualify for college credit at many postsecondary institutions.
