One way we support that goal is by implementing Georgia's Distraction-Free Education Act across all grade levels, helping ensure students have every opportunity to stay engaged, connect with their teachers and classmates, and make the most of each school day.
Grades K–8
Beginning this school year, students in grades K–8 may not use personal electronic devices during the school day, as required by the Distraction-Free Education Act. This includes cell phones, smartwatches used for communication, and other personal electronic devices.
Grades 9–12
For students in grades 9–12, personal electronic devices—including cell phones, smartwatches used for communication, and similar devices—may not be used during classroom instructional time. Devices may only be used when:
A teacher has specifically authorized their use for an instructional activity.
Their use is required as part of a student's documented accommodation.
Students are not in a classroom instructional setting, such as during lunch.
These expectations are designed to create learning environments where students can focus on what matters most—learning, building relationships, asking questions, and participating fully in the classroom experience.
