Mirette on the Highwire: Taking on Challenges!

After Ms. Moore read Mirette on the Highwire, students talked about what it means to face challenges, overcome obstacles, and keep trying when something seems impossible.

Then it was time for a challenge of their own:

Can you put your head through a notecard?

At first, it sounded impossible—but our students put their problem-solving skills, creativity, and perseverance to work! Some created an opening large enough for their entire body, and one group even managed to fit THREE people through their notecard!

What a fun way to connect literature with critical thinking and remind ourselves that sometimes a challenge just requires us to look at the problem in a different way!

Students in Mrs. Chlebisch's ELA classes kicked off the school year with a memorable lesson using toothpaste! Working together, they squeezed as much toothpaste as they could from the tube and then faced the challenge of trying to put it all back in. This hands-on activity led to a meaningful discussion about the power of our words and actions. Just like the toothpaste, once words are spoken or actions are taken, they can't be taken back. It was a wonderful reminder to choose kindness, think before we speak, and make thoughtful decisions every day.

We're off to a fantastic start! During our first two days of school, learners jumped right into Unit 1 in Mr. Allred's math class. These scholars explored the volume of rectangular prisms, and used hands-on models to build a deeper understanding of this important math concept. We can't wait to see all the learning and growth this year has in store!

PAWS is so excited that our regular specials schedule has begun!  If your child has PE or Tumbling, please remember to have them wear tennis shoes on their PE day.

To help everyone participate safely in Tumbling,  please make sure your child wears closed-toe shoes, ideally tennis shoes. Shoes with heels are not allowed, as they can damage our equipment. We also encourage athletic or comfortable play clothes—leggings, shorts, or t-shirts work great!

While no child will ever be left out because of their clothing, proper attire helps students move more freely and comfortably during these classes. Thank you for helping us keep these specials classes safe and enjoyable for all!

Please contact the teacher to find out your child's PE and Tumbling Days.

✨ The Night Before the First Day of School ✨

At City Park Elementary, we know that school is about so much more than classrooms and lessons—it's about families, traditions, relationships, and the legacy we build together.

These photos tell a beautiful story. One family has children spanning from Pre-K all the way to 5th grade, representing the journey so many of our students and families take with us through the years. From first-day jitters to fifth-grade memories, they remind us what makes our school community so special.

One of our newest future Panthers, Lupita, made a poster sharing that she "can't wait to meet PAWS next year!" 😻 Well, PAWS can't wait to meet her either! In fact, PAWS is excited to welcome all of our new students who will be walking through our doors for the very first time tomorrow. And to our returning students and families—PAWS is ready to see familiar faces, hear your stories from summer, and continue the traditions that make City Park feel like home.

As we begin another school year, we celebrate the families who have helped shape our school and the new families who are becoming part of our story. Together, we will learn, grow, achieve, and create endless PAWSibilities for every child.

See you tomorrow, Panthers! ❤
